We are so pleased that Kingfisher uses lots of local producers throughout the Summer. From lush green salads to dazzling Dahlias, there are plenty of local treats to be had. Don’t forget that we mark local products with special signs - so look out for those on your next visit!

This month we are adding a new section to the Monthly Post…‘Say hello to a Local Producer’. We will introduce you to the people behind some of our long standing suppliers, kicking off with Secretts of Milford. Please do let us know who you’d be most interested to hear from next!

Melcourt’s Bag for Life is a unique way of buying compost, which allows you to use the same packaging over and over again. Purchase your bag for life, then bring it back to us for refills. The bag only has to be used twice before less plastic has been consumed than with traditional plastic packaging.

If the bag for life isn’t for you, then try out our Kingfisher Compost Bucket. Simply pay a £6.00 deposit, fill the bucket, then return the empty bucket in exchange for your deposit.

Meet Secretts of Milford…

We thought it was about time that we properly introduced some of our long-standing suppliers & friends to our readers. We are very delighted to introduce Greg from Secretts of Milford - a Farm Shop, Tea Shop, Gift Shop and Farm. Secretts Farm supplies us with all fresh produce all year round. v

When we were talking, we asked Greg to explain his businesses connection to Kingfisher - “I’m too young to answer this properly but my father and Barrie go way back. We have been suppliers to Kingfisher for many years and love to be supplying such a great family farm shop”. How lovely to share such a history with Secretts! We’ll let Greg tell you the rest…

When COVID hit, our biggest initial challenge was what we would do with everything that we had grown! With so much product going into the pubs and restaurants there was a concern that we would be left with an awful lot of wastage. However, with hospitality closed, sales through Farm Shops increased and as well as our wholesalers adopting veg box schemes the gap was filled. Other than that, we just cracked on!

I love growing fresh produce as there is something wonderful when each day is different! The satisfaction of preparing and devouring something that you’ve grown is great! The challenge is strangely satisfying! Strawberries are my favourite crop to grow. To get them perfect requires a lot of care and attention and you need to keep a constant eye on them. It’s so rewarding to see thousands of berries ready to pick!”

From one family farm shop to another, thank you Greg for chatting with us and giving us a glimpse into the Secretts life!
