Meet Herbie…
Hey, who’s that devilishly handsome young man there? Oh, right that’s me! Joining the Kingfisher crew just about 2 years ago now as a timid little 17-year-old (with a much more acceptable haircut) seems like a lifetime ago already and what a journey it’s been. Making and saying farewell to friends, becoming fulltime and even growing into a more outgoing person are all things I attribute to working here. At first joining the Kingfisher family was a fairly daunting experience. It was not only my first real job but also one with a lot of family history tied to it. My Mother, Uncles (Jimbo, Bob and George) and especially my Grandfather William (or Bill as he liked to be called) have had such an influence on the Kingfisher Farm Shop, dating all the way back to around 1975! A lot of what you can see in the shop and even outside was either built or maintained by Bill. Whether it be my Mum and him laying the tiles in the shop, Jimbo and him building the wooden shelves that hold all of our lovely fruit and veg or even converting Barrie’s old garage into the now present Flower Shop! So, as it goes I have quite a high bar to uphold and like to think I do…most of the time anyway. Working here day to day is great as no two days are ever quite the same. Whether it be teaching the newbies on Saturday or offering a helping hand for the more ‘laborious’ jobs here and there, it’s always a pleasure to help. As for the team themselves it really is true what they say, everyone is as friendly and caring as it comes…it truly is like one big family here! As for my favourite foods, I’m quite partial to the Chalk Hills Bakery Surrey Bloomer, as it plays a key role in my lunchbox, being the fort that holds the oh so precious ham contained within. I can also thoroughly recommend our wide selection of cakes from Crosbies to Celebration Bakery as I am yet to come across one I do not find delicious!
