It’s time for some September colour!It is ever present that these last six months have been extraordinarily tough for everyone, in many different ways. We know how important it is to raise a smile in the Farm Shop, so we thought that we would try and continue the theme with our Newsletters and give each month a new colour theme (well, we have chosen 8!) to keep things a little more fun and interesting. Hopefully you will enjoy receiving them as much as we have enjoyed creating them! And if for whatever reason, you have lost your inner smile… just pop into our Flower Shop and indulge your senses with all the stunning blooms and we challenge you not to find it again! We really do love sharing our news & talking about the local community. This September there’s still heaps going on; paddleboarding lessons, Surrey Open Art Studios, afternoon teas & lots of jobs in the garden. And don’t forget our prize draw this month! Check the end of the the Monthly Post to see if you or someone you know has won our Abinger Sundown flower bouquet! Let’s make the most of the transition into Autumn!

As the Year Rolls into Autumn…
Kingfisher continues to supply you all with seasonal & British produce:
Ringdon Farm’s Apples from East Sussex Savoy cabbage Corn on the cob Wonderful Autumn Squashes Wild mushrooms are also beginning to come into season
In the Flower Shop: Chrysanthemums - Try not to judge them, they can look fantastic at this time of year with their spectrum of autumn tones and they are also a great long lasting flower for the vase. We promise the Flower Girls can change your view of them! Late Summer Hydrangea’s are a favourite this month Sunflowers are also still in season This is the month when we have to clutch the last of the Dahlia blooms so do make the most of them if you are a fan.
It is also time to replant your pots and we have a lovely selection of bedding plants to choose from this month. #shoplocalstayloyal

‘Our Local Fishman is the Best’Sally Cooks offers fun and informative two hour cookery demonstrations followed by lunch, to include everything cooked during the morning. Sally lives locally in Gomshall and pre-pandemic would host up to ten people in her lovely open plan kitchen with views to die for! Nowadays, she has put her demo’s on hold until the New year but still loves to offer recipes, and her favourite culinary tips and tricks on her Instagram and in her Newsletter, which you can sign up to here. Sally regularly visits us here at Kingfisher, especially on a Tuesday morning, when our wonderful fish man visits and she has kindly shared with us one of her favourite fish recipes so that we can all try out Ian’s fish! Sally’s theme for her cookery demonstrations is ‘easy, prepare ahead entertaining’ so there’s no excuse, as she would say! Ian and his fish van visits us every Tuesday morning from approximately 10 - 11am. He travels to Billingsgate market early every morning and brings back with him the freshest selection of the best fish that day. If you would like something specific for a particular recipe then please do ask him the week before and he will happily bring it to Kingfisher for you the week after. Some of our favourites are… Fresh crab, haddock fillet and his prawns are also excellent, but then so is it all!

Surrey Artists' Open Studios is running from 19 Sept - 4 Oct 2020 and The Forge Art Space on Shere High Street will be open and welcoming visitors. The exhibition will be featuring work by talented local artists Jillie Capstick (pictured), Lizzie Crawford, Lynn Bond, Kaz Jones & Pamela Chipperton. Discover even more local artists at the Dorking Open Art Studios and indulge your creative side! |

Who knew that Surrey had such a beautiful beach?! Well, make the most of this gorgeous location before the end of the season and book your 1 hour Introduction to StandUp Paddleboarding session with The Surrey Hills Adventure Company (SHAC) at the SHAC Lagoon in Buckland.
SHAC also offer SUP safari’s on the river Wey and family mountain biking skills sessions. Check out their website for dates & cost… it’s well worth it, we promise! |

If you’re lucky enough to grow a variety of flowers in your garden then you will be spoilt for choice, just try to remember that odd numbers is key! Both for the number of vases and the flowers.
However if you’re short on green space then remember that you can always come and choose a selection of single stems from The Flower Shop. We also have a range of beautiful petite vases for you to choose from to design your perfect table display. |

There must be some positives (other than obviously avoiding the spread of Covid19) to wearing facemasks… When you are able to design your own! We were all very excited when our lovely Helen came into work with this wonderful Kingfisher fabric and announced that she was going to make us all facemasks for the shop! Which is exactly what she’s done… and we love them!

This is Ian…Ian has been with us for nearly 5 years now and we consider him the mascot of the Farm Shop. As many of you will know Ian is always up for a good chat on many topics… football, climate change and politics being among his favourites! He’s often seen out and about delivering in the van, greeting people with his big smile whether he’s delivering flowers, watercress or a grocery box. From Ian’s top ten products which change with the seasons, you will always find our Surrey Hills Honey, fresh dates & The Tomato Stall Balsamic Vinegar top of the list! Ian is a great lover of the countryside and all of its offerings and loves to experiment with fresh food at home. If you’re lucky, you might even be invited round for a pizza, cooked in his wood fired pizza oven!
